On the evening of August 23, a warehouse of the Ukrainian Red Cross in Kherson caught fire as a result of a Russian drone attack. The fire destroyed humanitarian supplies worth nearly 28 million hryvnias ($625,000), the organization reported.
This includes equipment for preparing for the autumn-winter period and for rapid response to the aftermath of shelling, including materials for temporarily covering damaged homes. The warehouse also stored medical supplies, blankets, hygiene kits, equipment for water and electricity supply, and other humanitarian aid. No employees or volunteers were injured, and they will continue their work.
This is at least the second warehouse of the Ukrainian Red Cross destroyed by a Russian strike this summer, writes Moscow Times.
The first was completely destroyed in a massive attack on Kyiv on July 2. At that time, about 320,000 units of humanitarian aid worth more than 79 million hryvnias ($1.76 million) were destroyed, including generators, heat pumps, medical stretchers, defibrillators, ultrasound diagnostic devices, and patient monitors.
A significant portion of these goods were delivered to Ukraine through the European Civil Protection Mechanism to enhance the country's emergency preparedness.
