Wizz Air has started fighting neck pillows. You can say goodbye to the famous life hack
The popular low-cost airline has banned simply carrying neck pillows on board — now they must be placed in hand luggage. Hiding half your belongings in the pillow will no longer be possible.
The idea of hiding items in a neck pillow to avoid paying extra for luggage has been circulating on social media for years. There are thousands of videos where experienced travelers show how much can be compactly packed into an item that could previously be carried onto an airplane without extra charge.
For example, one TikToker managed to hide underwear, socks, a cardigan, a jumpsuit, a T-shirt, a dress, and a sarong in a neck pillow. This made a pretty good addition to a standard backpack, which can be taken as hand luggage without extra charge.
Even manufacturers caught on and started producing empty travel pillows — so there was no need to empty anything out of them.
But recently, the low-cost airline Wizz Air started combating such tricks. In August, a separate point appeared on its website stating that a neck pillow is not an additional free item. If a passenger wants to take it on board, the pillow must be hidden inside their hand luggage.
If the neck pillow does not fit within the permitted baggage allowance, it may be considered an additional item and subject to corresponding fees for oversized or excess luggage.
