What's it like to come face to face with one of the Arctic's most formidable predators?

This impressive photo allows you to see life through the eyes of a seal. Taken by Norwegian photographer Audun Rikardsen, it was among the works highly commended by the jury in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, organized by the Natural History Museum in London, the BBC writes.

Working as a guide for Arctic Wildlife Tours, Rikardsen set up an underwater camera with a motion sensor and waited.

At 4 AM, a polar bear approached the ice hole and peered inside.

Rikardsen waited eight hours until the bear left, after which he retrieved the camera and reviewed the shots.

Seeing what he had managed to capture, he was extremely happy: «I was incredibly happy. I shouted so loudly that I probably woke up all the polar bears in the vicinity».

Rikardsen had previously won twice in categories of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition: in the 'Birds' category in 2019 and 'Oceans: Perspective' in 2025.

The winners of the competition will be announced on October 13, 2026, after which an exhibition of their works will be held at the Natural History Museum.
