John Cole Awarded Politkovskaya Prize for Release of Belarusian Political Prisoners
On August 27, the "Kamerton" (Tuning Fork) awards named after Anna Politkovskaya were presented in Moscow. The prize, established in memory of the "Novaya Gazeta" journalist murdered in 2006, was awarded for the 14th time, the publication reports .

The award recognizes outstanding achievements in human rights protection and courage in advocating for freedom of speech. It is presented for honesty, civic responsibility, dignity, and human compassion.
Journalists, human rights defenders, and cultural figures have become laureates of the prize in various years.
This year, a special prize-tuning fork with the inscription "for saving lives" was awarded to John Cole, Special Envoy of US President Donald Trump. It was he who, looking at these people, uttered the main words: "You are free."

This year's laureates are:
— The Bell online media — in the nomination "For exemplary accuracy in an era of chaos"
— "Verstka" — "for texts that will become history."
— The award in the nomination "For Everyone" was received by musician Boris Grebenshchikov.
Recently, John Cole stated that he expects a large group of political prisoners to be released in the near future.
We remind you that as a result of visits by the American delegation in previous instances, 438 people were released: on June 21, 2025 — 14 political prisoners, on September 11 — 51 people, on December 13 — 123 people, on March 19, 2026 — 250 people.
