A gang of Belarusian robbers terrorized Russia. During raids, they remained silent to avoid revealing themselves with a Belarusian accent

Only their accomplice, Georgian Sergo, spoke — his Russian was purer than that of the Belarusians.

The verdict against the "Lukoshka gang", which operated in Russia in 2019-2020, draws attention due to details concerning Belarus.

Its members included citizens of Belarus Aliaksandr Lukoshka, Vital Kuchuk, Mikhail Milash, Siarhei Kokash, and Aliaksandr Zhurka.

One of the case's episodes is a night robbery in December 2019 at the home of an elderly woman in the Tver region, where the attackers came in search of money she had inherited. According to the case materials,

the organizer of the attack, before entering the house, precisely distributed roles and warned the group members: remain silent, because their Belarusian accent could give them away.

The only member of the gang who spoke Russian better than the Belarusians — ethnic Georgian Sergo Shavlokhov — was entrusted with speaking to the victim.

The others were forbidden not only to speak, but also to smoke and spit at the crime scene, so as not to leave biological traces. They were also required to turn off their phones and hide their faces with masks.

What did the Belarusians do besides breaking into the elderly woman's house? They stole a sawn-off hunting shotgun from a criminal acquaintance to arm the gang; set fire to a car at someone's request for $200; robbed women, snatching their bags containing phones, documents, and money; and stole batteries and gasoline from parked cars.

As a result, Lukoshka was sentenced to 13 years and 6 months in a penal colony, Vital Kuchuk and Mikhail Milash — 13 years each, Siarhei Kokash — 12 years, and Aliaksandr Zhurka — 11 years.
