The approximate timeframe for when Minsk residents will stop complaining about unpleasant odors from the wastewater treatment facilities was named by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev.
Residents of the Leninsky and Zavodsky districts of the capital suffer the most from this.
According to the mayor, everything depends on the timely completion of the reconstruction of the treatment facilities. And this is not an easy question, because it is impossible to close all facilities at once, writes Tochka.by.
"Working in turns: we complete some reservoirs, build others. I think everything should work out, and in 2028 we will complete the reconstruction in full. Now all open reservoirs are being covered," Kukharev said.
Another reason for the unpleasant odors in the capital was named by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee as sludge sediment. Thanks to this component of the purification process, wastewater becomes suitable for return to the environment. More than 200 thousand tons of this substance are formed annually at the capital's treatment facilities.
For now, sludge sediment is transported 80-90 km from Minsk. In addition to the high cost of this process, there is another problem - the dissatisfaction of residents of those areas where the sludge sediment is stored.
It was also decided to build a plant for its processing. Construction is already beginning. At the facility, sludge sediment will be dried and incinerated to generate electricity.
Minsk wastewater treatment facilities are undergoing global reconstruction. Despite the repairs, the station is still partially operational. Reconstruction is ahead of schedule, the Minsk City Executive Committee assured.
According to Irina Hontarava, Chairwoman of the Construction and Investment Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee, two stages of construction are planned to be commissioned this year.
