"Are these really such rare or difficult berries?" Belarusian outraged by blackberry price
The berry season in Belarus continues, but prices for some seasonal products can be surprising. On social networks, one user drew attention to unusually expensive berries: the seller asked for 55 rubles per kilogram, noted Tochka.by.
The man wondered if these berries were really so rare or difficult to grow. He recalled that as a child, such berries grew everywhere, fell to the ground, and hardly anyone ate them.
Initially, the author of the post thought the photo showed mulberries. However, in the comments, he was corrected: the pictures showed cultivated blackberries.
Users tried to explain why the price of blackberries might have increased so much. According to one version, the berries on the plantations suffered greatly from frost, so this year's harvest is small. One commenter noted that there are indeed few blackberries, but even considering this, 55 rubles per kilogram is too high a price.
Another participant in the discussion said that in his region, blackberries are accepted at the wholesale market for approximately 12 rubles per kilogram. Therefore, he called the retail price of 55 rubles a clear overpricing.
Most commenters also considered this price excessive. People wrote that during the season, cultivated blackberries should not cost so much. Some recounted that they bought large and sweet blackberries directly from local farmers for approximately 11 rubles per kilogram, including delivery.
Another Belarusian woman noted that in her region, the Gomel Oblast, blackberries are sold in small half-liter jars for approximately 5 rubles.
