Belarusians received over a billion dollars from abroad last year. This is a record
According to the National Bank, in 2025, residents of Belarus received 1.052 billion dollars from abroad in the form of labor income and personal transfers. This is the highest figure in the country's history, writes Thinktanks.pro.

Economists Elena Maslyankova and Kristina Matiyevskaya analyzed the dynamics of these inflows over the modern period in an article for "Bankovsky Vestnik" journal. They noted a steady long-term growth in the volume of money Belarusians receive from abroad, starting from 2008.
Over 2005-2025, labor income from abroad increased by 11.8 times. Particularly significant growth occurred in 2020-2025: during this time, the volume increased from 311 million to 1.052 billion dollars. The growth over these five years in absolute terms was greater than the total increase over the previous 15 years.
The researchers believe that such dynamics indirectly indicate an increase in labor migration and the growing importance of foreign monetary inflows for the Belarusian economy.
The share of net labor income received from abroad relative to GDP grew from 0.3% in 2005 to 1.12% in 2025. Thus, these incomes have already reached a volume that can be quantitatively accounted for when assessing macroeconomic processes in the household sector.
At the same time, labor income that foreign workers sent out of Belarus also grew, but its volume remained significantly smaller than the inflows into the country. The balance of net labor payments increased from 89 million dollars in 2005 to 805 million dollars in 2025.
Over the past two decades, the structure of money flows has also changed. Until 2015, personal transfers constituted the main part – including transfers from people who worked abroad long-term and non-residents. Since 2016, the main type of inflow has become net labor payments from seasonal and temporary workers – residents of Belarus.
Meanwhile, the volume of money that Belarusians send out of the country abroad is increasing much slower. Their share in the total volume of received funds decreased from approximately 30-35% in the mid-2000s to 15-20% in the 2020s.
The authors of the study note that changes in the structure of personal transfers may indirectly indicate an increase in short-term labor migration and a growing proportion of Belarusians officially employed abroad.
