Actor who played Kupala in the eponymous 'Belarusfilm' movie won Grand Prix and $450 thousand at a festival in Kazakhstan
Nikolay Shestak — an actor and director from Latvia.

"38-year-old Latvian theater actor Nikolay Shestak. Little work. Even less money. A few years ago, he went all-in and created his own film project. And recently he took the film to an international film festival in Astana and received the Grand Prix – 450 thousand dollars (400 thousand euros)," writes Delfi.lv
"It turned out to be a somewhat strange story. I returned from Kazakhstan and realized that in Latvia, it seems, no one wrote about it at all. At the Astana AI Film Festival, my film The First Honest Day received the Grand Prix and the main award — 450,000 dollars. And the scale turned out to be far from local: 8,067 films from 125 countries, 25 works reached the final selection," — Nikolay Shestak told Latvian Delfi.lv.
The total prize fund of the festival was two million dollars. The festival was opened by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Audrey Azoulay was on the international jury.
Let's recall that Nikolay Shestak played the main role in the 'Belarusfilm' movie 'Kupala', which was supposed to be released in 2020. The film tells about the life of Yanka Kupala from birth to his tragic death in 1942. The film shows the infancy and childhood of the future writer, his work in 'Nasha Niva' in Vilnius, the turbulent 1920s in Minsk, and the Russification and repressions of the 1930s.
However, a wide premiere of the film (by the end of 2021) never happened — for political reasons, it was 'shelved'. But it is available on internet resources.
