Ivan, the son of Russian opposition politician Dmitry Gudkov, has died by suicide. The politician himself announced the death of his elder son.

“A great tragedy has occurred in our family — our elder son Ivan, mine and Sonya’s, voluntarily took his own life. For many years he struggled with difficult internal problems, which, unfortunately, he never managed to overcome,” Gudkov wrote.
It is known that Ivan Gudkov was 22 years old.
46-year-old Dmitry Gudkov is a Russian opposition politician, a journalist by education, and the son of former Russian State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov. From 2011 to 2016, he himself was a State Duma deputy, where he opposed the Kremlin's policies. In 2018, together with Ksenia Sobchak, he participated in the creation of the Party of Changes and later headed it.
In June 2021, after a search and detention as part of a criminal case, Gudkov left Russia. After the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, he joined the Anti-War Committee of Russia. In February 2023, Russian authorities added him to the register of "foreign agents," and in August 2024, he was заочно (in absentia) sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army. Gudkov currently lives outside of Russia and continues his opposition activities.
