Zelenskyy asked the European Union for 70 billion euros for defense
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the leaders of the European Union countries with a request to allocate no less than 70 billion euros in additional defense aid in 2027. He stated this on October 16 during a speech to the participants of the European Council summit, writes "European Pravda".

According to Zelenskyy, next year the war will cost Ukraine 155 billion euros. Kyiv expects to receive no less than 70 billion euros of this amount from the European Union. The money is needed for the purchase of armaments, the country's defense, and the maintenance of its stability. The President called the request realistic and urged European partners to find the necessary funding.
Zelenskyy paid special attention to the production of drones. According to him, Ukrainian drones help stop most Russian assaults, cut off supply routes for Russian troops, and weaken Russia's economy.
Ukraine could increase drone production two to three times depending on their type, but there are not enough funds for this. Zelenskyy emphasized that additional funding would allow Ukraine to put more pressure on Russia and more effectively deter its aggression.
Previously, on October 1, representatives of the EU and Ukraine, during a joint meeting, concluded that Kyiv does not yet need additional international funding in 2026. The parties also stated that they had found opportunities to secure funding for the Ukrainian budget and defense for this year.
On October 7, Ukraine received another 1.2 billion euros from the European Union as part of the Ukraine Support Loan program. These funds are intended for defense needs.
