She was known as a legend of the Linguistic University.

A legend of the Linguistic University, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Zinaida Kharytonchyk, has passed away. She was 82 years old.
She was the head of the Department of General Linguistics at Minsk State Linguistic University. Her doctoral thesis was dedicated to adjectives: «Adjective: meaning, word formation, functions» (1987)
«I came to the university as a 16-year-old girl,» she recalled in one of her interviews. «The youth of that time was poor, meaning we didn't have much. To study English phonetics, I had to come to the only English language classroom at that time, where several tape recorders stood, and listen to phonetic exercises through headphones for several hours. We were poor not only in terms of the technical equipment of the university itself and the provision of the educational process. We also lacked ordinary necessities — clothing, shoes, opportunities for rest and entertainment. And so, when I didn't have the opportunity to go to the theater, I took up a book and prepared for classes».
The lecturer dedicated six decades to the Linguistic University.
«In 1960, by fate's will, I came to the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. Since then, my entire life has been connected precisely with this institute, which today has become a university. Today I perceive this connection as exceptionally fortunate, because working at the university always brought me incredible joy. And that's already 58 years of work experience, not counting five years of study at the institute,» the woman said in 2023.
