Belarusians are noticing a significant increase in the price of red caviar in stores. A kilogram of this delicacy in some cases costs about 900 rubles — approximately a third of the average salary in the country, writes "Onliner".

According to Belstat data, in September 2026, a kilogram of salmon caviar cost an average of 311.61 rubles. Over the year, the average price increased: in September 2025, it was 261.44 rubles.
Belarus produces its own black caviar, while red caviar primarily arrives on Belarusian shelves from Russia. However, this year Russia's production of red caviar sharply decreased. According to estimates by the analytical platform Tridge, in 2026 it could amount to about 3 thousand tons, compared to almost 13 thousand tons a year earlier.

One of the reasons cited is anomalous warming in the northern Pacific Ocean, which affects fish migration and the availability of their food resources.

The reduction in production led to retail prices for pink salmon and sockeye salmon caviar doubling, while chum salmon caviar increased by 50%. Industry experts note that red caviar is gradually moving from the category of ordinary food products to the category of luxury items or symbolic goods.

Onliner journalists contacted Belarusian suppliers and retail chains for comments regarding the price increase. Their responses had not yet been received at the time of publication.
