Another village disappeared in Belarus — the 20th since the start of the year
A village named Kryŭka.
The Council of Deputies of Pastavy District, Vitebsk Region, abolished the village of Kryŭka of Varapaeva Rural Council. The local authority adopted the corresponding decision on September 22, and it came into force on October 9, writes Blizko.by.
From August 15 to September 14, authorities studied citizens' opinions regarding the possible abolition of Kryŭka. A notice about this was published on the website of the Pastavy District Executive Committee and in the district newspaper. However, no appeals on this matter were received within a month.
The exact date of the village's founding is unknown, but it already existed in 1921: according to the Treaty of Riga, the settlement, along with the rest of Western Belarus, became part of Poland. Even then, Kryŭka was not impressive in size and more closely resembled a hamlet: 25 people lived in four households. And in 1999, already in independent Belarus, it had only seven residents.
This is already the 20th instance of a Belarusian settlement being abolished in 2026.
As of January 1, 2026, there were 22,972 villages in Belarus, meaning 22,952 remain.
