Vadim Popov, who served as Chairman of the House of Representatives in 2000-2004 and 2007-2008, has died. He was 86 years old.

Vadim Popov was born on July 5, 1940, in the city of Demidov, Smolensk region. He began his career as a worker on a state farm, later working as a foreman and mechanic. In 1961—1964, he served in the Soviet Army, after which he worked in Komsomol (Young Communist League) positions.
In 1971, Popov graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, and in 1984—from the Minsk Higher Party School. From 1972—1976, he was the director of the Kalinin State Farm in Krasnapolle district, Mogilev region.
After that, he worked for a long time in party bodies. He was an instructor, headed the agrarian department of the Mogilev Regional Committee of the CPB (Communist Party of Belarus), worked in the Central Committee of the CPB, headed the Asipovichy City Committee, and later became the second and first secretary of the Mogilev Regional Committee of the CPB.
From 1992, Popov transitioned to economic work and managed various enterprises of the agro-industrial complex of the Mogilev region. In 1999, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, and on July 14, 2000, he became the minister.
In October 2000, Popov was appointed a deputy of the House of Representatives of the second convocation. On November 21 of the same year, he was appointed Chairman of the House of Representatives, after which he left the post of Minister of Agriculture.
In 2004, Popov again became a deputy of the House of Representatives and headed the Standing Commission on International Affairs and CIS Relations. In October 2007, he was re-appointed Chairman of the House of Representatives after the resignation of Vladimir Konoplev. He remained in this position until 2008, and after the expiration of the powers of that convocation, he retired.
