In Lithuania, border guards detained a smuggler on an electric scooter, he was carrying Belarusian cigarettes

Lithuanian border guards detained a 31-year-old local resident who tried to transport a thousand packs of Belarusian cigarettes along a forest road. He loaded the contraband onto an electric scooter, which, due to the weight, looked "very tired" according to the border guards.

The man was stopped on Monday near the border with Belarus. He was riding an electric scooter and carrying two large bundles wrapped in plastic film.

Inside, border guards found a thousand packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps. Their value, considering the taxes that would have to be paid in Lithuania, was estimated at 5510 euros.

The detainee has repeatedly received penalties for illegal storage and transportation of excisable goods. Since he was caught again for such a violation, he now faces a fine of 5760 to 6000 euros — more than the cost of the cigarettes themselves, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported.

The electric scooter and cigarettes were temporarily confiscated.
