MFA urged Belarusians to consider situation in Nepal, India, and China
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus urged citizens of the country to be careful when traveling to Nepal, India, and China, where large-scale natural disasters have occurred.
On August 26, on the border of Nepal and China, due to heavy rains and an earthquake, a powerful mudslide occurred, blocking the channel of the Bhote Kosi river. As a result, a strong flow of water emerged, leading to significant destruction and human casualties.
The Belarusian MFA recommended that citizens observe personal safety measures and weigh the situation if travel to affected areas or high-risk zones is necessary.
According to Nepalese authorities, at least 175 people have died, but many local residents and foreigners are still considered missing. The Nepal Tourism Board reported that communication has not yet been established with 644 tourists, among whom 127 are citizens of Nepal, and the rest are foreigners. Among the missing is also a Belarusian citizen.
Belarusian diplomats are clarifying the circumstances of the Belarusian citizen's disappearance. If necessary, Belarusians can contact the Embassy of Belarus in India, which is also responsible for Nepal.
