Today on Tsikhanouskaya's folder: a portrait of a Brest resident sentenced to seven years for attending trials of political prisoners

Vital Chopyk attended trials of political prisoners.
On December 1, 2021, his home was searched for the first time. In September 2022, he was detained, and a report was filed under Art. 24.23 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The reason for the report was a white-red-white flag taped from the inside to a house window, although Chopyk himself claimed that the flag appeared after he was detained and taken to the temporary detention center (IZO).
In early March 2024, the Brest resident was detained again. After his detention, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance with signs of severe beating, and Chopyk's face was yellow (which may indicate liver damage due to the beating).
BelTA reported that the man "together with accomplices... systematically attended trials in criminal cases of an extremist nature. He recorded the course and results of the sessions, information about witnesses and law enforcement officials."
The man was charged under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code — Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them, and Art. 361-4 of the Criminal Code — Facilitating extremist activity.
On November 15, 2024, he was sentenced to seven years and fined 40,000 rubles.
