Belarusian women started a flash mob — posting photos of themselves in short shorts. The reason was one unpleasant comment
Women decided to defend each other's right not to hide their legs.

It all started with a post on Threads by a user with the nickname jablynevy.kvecen. The Belarusian woman met an elderly woman in shorts, and it outraged her so much that she couldn't keep silent:
I saw such a wonder for the first time, and such short ones. Apparently, some city dweller, a dacha owner. There are no questions for young girls dressed in this style.
The woman's post received almost 300 comments in less than a day. Only a few of them supported the author of the post; all the others supported the unknown woman in shorts.
The author was advised that if she found it unpleasant to see such women, she should close her eyes and not look at them. It was also noted that she somehow didn't write about varicose veins and lack of tone in men's legs:
"A woman is going about her business, and here someone is writing about her varicose veins online — what culture!"
"Everyone knows: after 40, women should wrap themselves in a sack and crawl to the cemetery. And here they've invented wearing some shorts, really!"
"Here's some free advice: don't leave your house until winter! And under no circumstances go to the river or lake to swim – people over 60 years old walk around completely without clothes there, what a horror!"
It didn't end with comments; Belarusian women started posting their own photos in shorts.
One woman admitted that her vein problems started not at 60, but much earlier, but that doesn't stop her from wearing what she wants:
"I've never had thin legs, varicose veins since I was 12. How much nastiness I've heard and still hear directed at me! In November, I had a nervous breakdown because I wasn't 'like that' again. Thanks to my husband, who helped me get through it. Sometimes I try to lose weight, but then I gain it back again.
It's sad that you can write as much as you want about soul and character, but there will always be people who say something mean behind your back. Thank you, Belarusian Threads, for standing up for the unknown sixty-year-old woman in short shorts!"
Another Belarusian woman noted that short shorts are far from the only thing women should allow each other:
"So what are we going to rehabilitate next? Open-toed sandals? Bare shoulders? Maybe white trousers that 'make you look fat'? Or swimsuits after 40?
Or the rule 'hands must be hidden after a certain age'? Or maybe knees? Oh, poor women's knees have also been criticized many times. In general, the longer I live, the more I am surprised by how many complexes they have managed to impose on us."
