Trump informally advised Zelensky to be bolder with Russia — Kyiv Independent

According to information from the Kyiv Independent, citing a high-ranking Ukrainian official, US President Donald Trump during a private meeting urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to act more boldly towards Russia.

The Kyiv Independent's source claims that Trump believes Russian President Vladimir Putin will not take significant steps to end the war without additional pressure. American officials note that Trump adheres to the principle of "peace through strength" and considers strength an important factor both on the battlefield and in negotiations.

The publication's interlocutors did not directly state whether Trump supports Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. However, according to Ukrainian officials, the intensification of Ukrainian attacks and strikes on Russian logistics routes may have influenced Washington's perception of the military situation. Kyiv believes this helped convince the American leadership that Ukraine's positions are now stronger than they were at the beginning of the year.

Similar assessments were previously given by sources of Bloomberg. According to their data, the US administration is increasingly inclined to believe that Russia will not be able to achieve victory on the battlefield, and Ukraine's capabilities are gradually strengthening.

During a closed meeting of G7 leaders, Trump expressed readiness to continue supporting Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia to end the war, with the participation of European partners in resolving other international issues.

At the G7 summit, the US President joined the joint statement of the leaders, which confirms support for Ukraine and notes readiness to consider the possibility of issuing licenses for the production of armaments on Ukrainian territory.

Volodymyr Zelensky also reported that Trump has a positive attitude towards the idea of establishing licensed production of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Ukraine.

According to a Kyiv Independent source, during the meeting on June 16, Zelensky showed Trump photographs of the consequences of the Russian strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on June 15. The publication's interlocutor claims that the scale of destruction deeply impressed the American president and evoked an emotional reaction from him.
