«Poseidon» Launched on the Sozh. A Modern Steamboat with Solar Panels and Belarus' First Waterjet Engine Created in Gomel
The pleasure craft, equipped with technologies unique to Belarus, has already started operating cruises on the Sozh River, offering passengers a new level of comfort.
A new passenger steamboat, «Poseidon», has started operating on Gomel's river routes. The single-deck vessel, almost 22 meters long, is designed for 50 passengers and offers forty-minute cruises along the route Swan Pond — Lyubenskoye Lake — Swan Pond. Ticket prices range from 10 to 20 rubles, and children under 7 years old can travel for free.
Although official reports refer to the process as "modernization," in essence, the city has received a completely new ship. As the manufacturer, PromBudMet, reports, "the construction of the steamboat was done from scratch." The project, developed by Belsudnaproekt, has transformed it into a modern and technologically advanced object.
The main technical feature of the «Poseidon» is its waterjet engine, which is being used on a passenger vessel in Belarus for the first time. Such a system significantly reduces the ship's draft and increases its maneuverability, which is critically important for operating on shallow rivers.
The 220-horsepower engine allows the «Poseidon» to reach speeds of up to 15 km/h.
The power supply system is also noteworthy. It is built on a hybrid scheme, consisting of solar panels on the roof, modern lithium iron phosphate batteries, and hybrid inverters. This solution not only reduces the load on the main engine but also makes the vessel more environmentally friendly.
Engineers paid special attention to safety. For the first time, automatic electric pumps were installed on the steamboat: in case of an emergency, they will pump water from the bilges without human intervention.
The passenger salon is equipped with soft seats, a TV, and an audio system. In line with modern requirements, passengers are provided with power outlets for charging gadgets via USB and Type-C connectors. A vacuum toilet is also installed on board.
