Social networks are discussing Justin Bieber's festival performance, for which he was paid $10 million. What's so special about it?

Justin Bieber's performance at Coachella-2026 became one of the most unusual in the festival's history: for approximately a third of his 90-minute set, he simply sat on stage with a laptop, scrolled through YouTube, watched old videos of himself, and sang along to his own youthful hits.

On Saturday, April 11, Justin Bieber took to the main stage of one of the largest music festivals in the USA — Coachella (California). Usually, headliners here put on massive shows with elaborate productions, lights, and special effects.

As Business Insider writes, the very appearance of the 32-year-old singer was an event: in recent years, Bieber has hardly performed and has repeatedly canceled tours — his Justice Tour in 2022 stopped halfway, as did his earlier Purpose Tour (2016-2017). In recent years, he has appeared before the public only episodically: with short numbers at award ceremonies or as an unexpected guest at other artists' concerts.

When he was announced as a Coachella headliner, questions immediately arose about how much effort he would put into this high-profile and expensive event. As a result, the singer, who, according to media reports, received about $10 million, limited himself to a minimalistic set.

Instead of a grand show with dancers and staging, he came on stage in a simple outfit — shorts and a hoodie — and essentially turned the concert into an improvised "home session."

For about a third of his 90-minute performance, Bieber spent it sitting at a laptop, searching YouTube for his old videos: he played them and sang along to his younger self. The singer also looked for old memes of himself and revisited viral clips that once made him popular.

This "nostalgic block" featured his main early hits, including *Baby*, *Never Say Never*, and other songs that made him famous.

Part of the concert was structured as an interaction with the audience: he invited fans to write in the comments which songs they wanted to hear, and he picked them live during the performance.

This very moment went viral. As Bieber searched for another video on stage, Katy Perry, who was at the festival accompanied by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, joked: "Thank God he has YouTube Premium — he won't have to watch ads." A video of her reaction quickly spread online and became one of the festival's main memes.

Reactions to the performance were polar: some viewers called it "lazy" and unsuccessful, while others, on the contrary, appreciated the sincerity, nostalgia, and the idea itself — a return to the time when Bieber became famous thanks to YouTube.

In 2026, the singer, according to media, became the highest-paid headliner in Coachella's history, and fans are already joking, calling the festival "Bieberchella."
