The publication of the map caused a strong reaction in Iceland and Denmark.
Icelandic Foreign Minister Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir summoned the US Ambassador to Reykjavík for a discussion. She called the publication of the map "completely inappropriate."
The Danish government also criticized the map. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that the residents of Greenland have repeatedly expressed their opposition to joining the United States. According to her, Greenland is not for sale, and Greenlanders themselves must decide their future.
A similar position was expressed by Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen. He called for respect for the territorial integrity of the island and the norms of international law.
However, Trump did not accompany the map published on Truth Social with any explanation.
