"You won't be riding much longer." Slonim bus driver was rude to a teenager with a disability

Recently, an unpleasant situation between a driver of one of Slonim's private route buses and a 16-year-old passenger with a disability received widespread attention, writes the publication "Slonimski Vesnik".

The boy's mother wrote on a social network that the bus driver insulted her son and refused to give him a free ride from Minsk. At the end of the conversation, he said: "You won't be riding much longer." These words deeply hurt the boy.

The mother also clarified that the conflict arose for the second time. During the first incident, the driver wanted to kick the boy off the bus.

However, there is an important nuance: the owner of the private transport company that provides route services has granted all children with disabilities the right to free travel on the company's buses. Hundreds of children have already taken advantage of this opportunity.

The mother and her son have no complaints against the head of the transport company. Questions arose precisely regarding the driver, who, in their opinion, wanted to deprive the boy of his right to free travel and spoke to him rudely and disrespectfully.

The mother did not leave such an attitude towards her son unattended. In her opinion, a driver's work should involve professional ethics, elementary respect for people, and humanity. A simple, calm conversation between the passenger and the driver, without unnecessary negative emotions from the adult, could have helped avoid the conflict.

The driver himself explained the situation differently. According to him, he did not want to take responsibility for the life and health of a child with health problems and insisted that the boy travel accompanied by an adult. However, at that age, he can already use public transport independently.

Regarding the phrase "You won't be riding much longer," the driver claims that he only meant that after reaching 18 years of age, the boy would lose his right to free travel. According to him, he made no other insinuations, and his words cannot be interpreted otherwise.

The head of the transport company personally apologized to the family and assured them that similar situations would not recur in the future.
