"I told my friend: 'I'll handle it myself'." The footballer who saved a woman told how it all happened

The guy didn't hesitate to jump into the water to save the person. He told Betnews in an interview about the circumstances of the story.

"We gathered at night with a group in Krasny Dvor (a suburb of Brest). There were about 15 of us. Towards morning, some friends and I decided to sit on sunbeds near the shore. There we met another group who were relaxing nearby. We sat, chatted nicely, everything was good. And then a woman from that other group decided to swim in the lake. She swam and swam and didn't even notice how she'd gone about 50 meters from the shore... And I already understood that she wouldn't get out of there herself: her head started to bob — now under water, now above water. And there was nothing left but to quickly swim and save the person. I never thought I'd ever find myself in a similar situation," says Kiryl.

Kiryl is not only a footballer but also a physical education teacher at school; he learned to swim at school. He was taught swimming at the university in the faculty of physical education.

He says that initially it wasn't him who swam, but his acquaintance Igor, who was the first to see it.

"He's so thin, and it was hard for him too. And I swam right behind him. I told Igor: 'Swim to the shore, I'll handle it myself'," the guy noted.

Kiryl notes that his relatives didn't expect such a selfless act from him, but he doesn't feel like a hero himself.

His team "Agro-Pialishcha" plays in Kamenets — in the second division of the Belarusian championship. They have now reached the second stage and are trying to compete for promotion.

"Residents of Kamenets [come to the matches], people from Brest come. Plus the families of the footballers. If we play on an artificial field, an average of 50 people come. If on a natural one — about 120 people," he says.

His main job is a physical education teacher at school.

"There's no bullying. My lessons proceed with discipline. The children know what I want from them, and they comply. Everyone likes everything. Far from everyone knows that I played for "Rukh", was the captain of the "Dinamo" Brest reserve team. But there are also those who know, who are interested in FC "Agro-Pialishcha". They ask for advice. For those who know — it's probably cool that I'm a footballer," Kiryl noted.

— What did the students say when they learned about your heroic deed?

— They said: "Kiryl Dzmitryevich, you are, of course, a great guy." I'm pleased.
