US and Europe don't expect to reach agreement with Putin and prepare for a prolonged war
American and European officials believe that the war in Ukraine could continue until at least 2027. According to information from Bloomberg agency sources, the latest attempt to resume negotiations with the Kremlin yielded no significant results.
The visit of US special envoys Jared Kushner and Stephen Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv did not lead to a breakthrough. After a three-hour meeting with them, Vladimir Putin, according to European sources, showed no readiness to change his position and may intensify strikes on Ukraine as winter approaches.
One of Bloomberg's interlocutors claims that Russia could intensify attacks on Ukraine's energy and heating systems, as well as hybrid attacks against European countries, in the coming six months. The Kremlin expects to improve its positions by spring and avoids serious negotiations until then.
Possible Russian-Ukrainian negotiations with US involvement might occur after the September State Duma elections in Russia, but Bloomberg sources doubt they will lead to a peace agreement.
Against this backdrop, Europe is preparing to increase military support for Ukraine. Great Britain announced a new aid package worth 100 million pounds sterling. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Berlin would urgently transfer Patriot missile systems from its stocks to Ukraine, calling the country's preparation for winter a top priority.
