Pochobut's friend: After a week in Belarus, Andrei will go to America
Journalist of Gazeta Wyborcza and friend of Andrei Pochobut, Bartosz Wielinski, emphasized that his current visit to Belarus is primarily private in nature, reports the Belarusian service of Polish Radio.
According to Bartosz Wielinski, Andrei Pochobut will stay in Belarus for about a week, as he later has planned visits to the USA and Canada.
"He's only going for a week, specifically to visit his father, familiar places, colleagues from the Union of Poles in Belarus. This is a private, not a political, trip. Later he has planned visits to Canada and the USA, so he is traveling with an American visa in his passport," Wielinski stated.
He noted that Andrei Pochobut had concerns about this visit, but he decided to go to Belarus because he was assured that he would be able to return.
"He goes with apprehension, but realistically believes that it is not beneficial for the regime to harm him now. As if, if they wanted to kill him, they would have done it long ago. Moreover, he was promised — he was released from prison, given a passport, ordered to cross the border, and told that Lukashenka's administration promised he could return to Belarus. In accordance with this, he is returning for some time," says Bartosz Wielinski.
Andrei Pochobut himself has not yet commented on his trip to Belarus. Only a photo captioned "On the Neman River" was published on his Facebook page.
Pochobut arrived in Belarus from Poland on the morning of September 8.
