Presenter Maryna Mentusava attended the premiere of Andrei Kutsila's film "Letters from a Silent Country" at the Venice Film Festival and used this opportunity to recall the fate of Belarusian political prisoners.

Maryna Mentusava herself was involved in this film — the voice of former political prisoner Kasia Budzko, who was convicted in the "students' case," speaks through her.

"Today, the world premiere of Andrei Kutsila's Letters will take place at the Venice Film Festival. And I did not come there alone — with me are the names of Kasia and other female political prisoners. I hope they will one day walk this red carpet themselves," Mentusava wrote.

The kimono for the presenter, on which the names of female political prisoners in Belarus are written, was created by Belarusian designer Volha Kardash (KARDASH).

Work on Andrei Kutsila's full-length documentary "Letters from a Silent Country" continued for over five years. It tells about the subtle but strong connection of Belarusian political prisoners with their relatives through prison walls — how this connection is maintained through letters. The film was created by an international team from Poland, Germany, and Lithuania.
