"Didn't understand what it was that was running." A cat was found at a gas station, covered in burns and зелёнка.
A Belarusian woman found a cat in a very critical condition at one of the country's gas stations, as reported by the "Stary Kot" (Old Cat) project on Instagram. Volunteers believe the animal was doused with зелёнка (a brilliant green antiseptic solution). The cat had chemical burns all over its body, with approximately 30% of its skin missing, writes "Onliner."

As reported on the project's social media, Tatiana struggled to catch the injured cat: it was afraid of everything and hid under cars.
"Then we remembered a fishing net. We caught him. We asked for a box for the poor fellow. We grabbed the cat by the scruff of its neck, and a piece of skin remained in my hand!" "Stary Kot" project quotes Tatiana.
The injured animal was then taken there for veterinary help. Specialists from the animal rescue service discovered that the cat's entire body was infested with maggots. Doctors did everything possible to stabilize its condition, but the organism was too exhausted: the cat developed sepsis, severe multiple organ failure, anemia, dehydration, and other complications.
Despite all efforts, it was not possible to save Dobrush (as the cat was named).

Journalists contacted the project's veterinary assistant for a comment.
— Unfortunately, the cat died. It's difficult to say exactly how he sustained such injuries. Most likely, it wasn't accidental: judging by the damage, he could indeed have been doused with зелёнка — there was a characteristic chemical burn.
The animal's condition when it was brought to us was extremely severe. Judging by the wounds, several days had passed since the injury: in places where the fur had already come off, dry necrosis had begun. In addition, there was a huge number of worms in the wounds, which also could not have appeared in just a few hours. The main injuries were on the muzzle, front paws, and back.
No one saw exactly how this happened. Perhaps the cat was doused somewhere in a village, and he somehow made his way to the gas station, — the specialist said.
— And did the people who brought the cat to you not contact the police?
— When he was brought to us, the main task was to stabilize his condition and stop the developing septic process. The cat was dehydrated, and the wounds were heavily contaminated. He underwent infusion and antibacterial therapy, and his body's intoxication was reduced. Tatiana and her family were deeply worried about the animal; they weren't in a state to contact the police.
To find out the details of what happened, "Onliner" journalists contacted Tatiana, who found the cat at the gas station.
"We were driving from the dacha and stopped at a gas station to buy ice cream for the child. This is the Brest highway, the turn to Mastishche, Dzyarzhynsk district. Well, my husband noticed this cat.
He said: 'I didn't understand what that was running around.' And then we looked closer and saw that it was a cat, just completely covered in зелёнка. We approached, wanted to feed him, but he, naturally, didn't eat anything — his muzzle was all burned, his nose.
The gas station employee said that the cat had been with them for two days. They didn't know what to do with him. But she helped us — gave us gloves and a box. While I was catching him, my friend Nadezhda was looking for someone to take him, because we understood that the case was very serious, we couldn't handle it ourselves. And 'Stary Kot' agreed to take him.
We went there, and they immediately started helping him. We understood that the chances were slim, but we hoped. Because I signed an act that if he survived, I would take him home. Although they don't insist, they offer. Well, he stayed there for two nights, and that was it..."
Although Tatiana believes the animal suffered at the hands of a human, she did not file a police report.
"Where would you find the culprits now? Where did he come from? It's unclear... In principle, it's quite far from the nearest houses. Only the 'Energetik' railway station is near the gas station. But it's unlikely the cat got into this зелёнка himself. Especially since, if you look, the зелёнка had almost come off — most likely, by the time we found him, he had been walking around like that for quite a while."
