Hungary expels 10 Russian diplomats at once. This has not happened before
The Hungarian authorities have demanded that ten employees of the Russian diplomatic mission leave the country. This is the largest simultaneous expulsion of Russian diplomats in Hungary's history.
Foreign Minister Anita Orban reported that the decision was made based on the assessment of Hungarian special services.
"Ten employees of the Russian mission were engaged in activities in Hungary that are unacceptable for a diplomat in accordance with the Vienna Convention," she stated.
The Russian ambassador in Budapest has already been informed about the decision. According to Orban, the expulsion is intended to protect Hungary's security and sovereignty.
However, Budapest is not going to break diplomatic relations with Moscow and intends to maintain "necessary dialogue with mutual respect and compliance with rules."
