On the afternoon of September 8, a Russian attack drone attacked the building of the Ukrainian TV channel "We Are Ukraine" in Kyiv. At the moment of the strike, journalists were on air during the national TV marathon "United News".

The main impact fell on the newsroom and offices. The building was partially destroyed, and a fire broke out, which was promptly extinguished by employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, five people were injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that "Shahed" attacks on media are a new manifestation of Russian aggression, and called on Europe and the international community to react to such strikes.
The TV channel's building had already been subjected to Russian attacks. On August 20, as a result of a night drone raid, the newsroom was also damaged, but no one was injured then.
On the night of September 8, Kyiv was attacked by Russian attack drones and ballistic missiles. Residential buildings and an educational institution were damaged. Three people died, and more than ten were injured.
Since the end of August, Russian forces have been attacking the Ukrainian capital almost daily. During one of the most massive strikes on September 1, eight people died, including three children, and five more were injured.
On September 2, drones damaged one of Kyiv's universities, a hospital, and a six-story residential building. On September 4, a drone hit the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine, damaging the office of the head of the special service, Oleksandr Poklad.
Vladimir Putin previously called Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities "effective" and "timely".
