The troupe of the State Kupala Theatre has been joined by Russian actress Kristina Andreeva. Information about her appeared on the theatre's official website, as noted by Zerkalo publication.
Kristina Andreeva was born in 1996 in the city of Gusinoozyorsk in Buryatia. Her grandparents wanted their granddaughter to connect her life with law enforcement agencies: they dreamed that she would become an investigator, prosecutor, or judge. Initially, the girl indeed graduated from the Law Faculty of Irkutsk University, but later decided to change her profession and enrolled in the Irkutsk Theatre School.
Later, Andreeva became an actress of the Kazan Theatre and, as part of its troupe, came on tour to Minsk. According to her, Minsk audiences then met the artists near the service entrance, talked to them, and thanked them for their performances.
Andreeva now works at the Kupala Theatre and participates in three productions. She has not mentioned Belarusian roots or other connections to Belarus. It is also unknown whether the actress speaks the Belarusian language, in which the performances she participates in are staged.
After the events of 2020, most of the then-current troupe of the Kupala Theatre resigned in protest against the falsification of elections and violence by security forces.
The theatre resumed its work only in March 2021. After that, its management failed to recruit a sufficient number of new Belarusian actors, as many refused the offered work. Therefore, artists from Russia began to be invited to the theatre, including graduates of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and former students of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow. In March 2026, Russian Dmitry Akimov became the artistic director of the Kupala Theatre.
