At 22, the winner of the last "Miss Austria" competition died. She underwent 7 heart surgeries
"Miss Austria" Lucia Sisić died at the age of 22. Her death was reported by Mission Austria, the organization that hosts the national beauty pageant.
The competition organizers called Lucia a "wonderful young woman" and extended their condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.
It is known that Sisić had heart valve problems since birth and had repeatedly spoken openly about her health. Her first open-heart surgery was performed shortly after birth. By 2024, she had undergone five operations.
2017 was particularly difficult when 13-year-old Lucia had to be resuscitated during an operation. After complications, she spent about five months in the hospital and learned to walk again. However, there is no confirmation that heart disease was the direct cause of her death.
In the summer of 2025, Sisić underwent her sixth major operation. According to her, the intervention was urgently needed due to an infection. In September of the same year, she had her seventh heart surgery.
After the last intervention, Lucia said she was very happy and hoped to take a break from treatment for several years. She also wanted to help children facing similar health problems.
In January 2024, the Vienna native won the title of "Miss Vienna". On September 10 of the same year, she won the "Miss Austria" final, which took place during Vienna Fashion Week. At that time, she was 20 years old. Sisić was studying to become a teacher and was involved in supporting people with heart conditions.
After the 2024 competition, no new national competition was held, so Lucia Sisić remained the reigning "Miss Austria" until her death.
She posted her last Instagram update on August 12. In the published photos, the girl posed in a golden dress.
