The new position of the dismissed head of Minsk's Maskouski District Department of Internal Affairs has become known
Siarhei Vareika has been promoted — he will be responsible for dispersing rallies throughout Belarus.

46-year-old Colonel Siarhei Vareika has taken charge of the Main Department of Law Enforcement and Prevention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A few days ago, he left his post as the head of Minsk's Maskouski District Department of Internal Affairs.
The Department of Law Enforcement and Prevention coordinates the activities of juvenile affairs inspectorates, as well as precinct police officers. In addition, it is responsible for mass events.
The position of the head became vacant after the previous head of the department, Aliaksandr Kupchenia, was appointed to lead the Vitsebsk Regional Police.
Siarhei Vareika was born in 1980 in Kletsk. He graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Physical Culture, after which he studied at the Minsk Higher College of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In 2004, he worked in the patrol and guard service for metro security. From 2004-2008 and 2020-2025, he served in Minsk's Maskouski District Department of Internal Affairs; from 2008-2012 — in Pershamaiski District Department of Internal Affairs; from 2012-2020 — in Kastrychnitski District Department of Internal Affairs; and in 2020 — in Zavodski District Department of Internal Affairs.
In 2020, Vareika was diligent during the dispersal of protests. At that time, he was the deputy head of Minsk's Zavodski District Department of Internal Affairs. "He said that if his son came out to a rally, he would beat him too. And that we are worth nothing, we are nobody and have no rights," recounted students from the Faculty of International Economic Relations of BSEU, with whom Vareika conducted a "conversation" after their harsh detention.
