A discussion arose on Threads recently. Users were indignant: why does Belavia have so many night flights, and can't they be made daytime? The Times.by publication asked these questions to the airline itself.

«We read and analyze social networks ourselves. Many people perfectly understand why this is happening. At the same time, interesting opinions are encountered — for example, that flying at night is cheaper and Belavia saves money. This is not true,» — noted Ekaterina Radishevskaya, Head of Marketing and Foreign Economic Activity Service at Belavia.
According to her, there are three reasons why flights are operated strictly at night.
Reason №1
The first reason is slots (a strictly limited time interval that an airport allocates to an aircraft for takeoff and landing).
«At a number of airports (for example, Sanya, Dubai), it is very difficult to get slots. It is especially difficult if it is a new flight and does not have a ten-year history. They try to be accommodating, but when airports are heavily loaded, it is very difficult to get a convenient slot for us. And in some countries, slots are coordinated not by the airport, but by a third-party organization, which complicates the process,» — the interviewee said.
Reason №2
The second reason is that the aircraft must always be working (both day and night); this is the foundation of the airline's economy.
«We schedule flights in chains with breaks for maintenance. We are given a schedule in advance, we know how many aircraft and when they need to undergo maintenance, and we carry out rotation. If we schedule all flights during the day, one aircraft will perform only one flight, and this will inevitably affect ticket prices. The more flights an aircraft performs, the better the economics and the lower the prices for passengers. This is correct, everyone does this, so we cannot schedule all flights during the day,» — Ekaterina Radishevskaya explained.
Reason №3
The third reason is connecting flights.
«In order to improve flight economics and make transportation more accessible, we always look for additional passenger flows. And a very important additional flow is transit passengers within our route network through Minsk. We need to connect our flights in Minsk as efficiently and smoothly as possible. Therefore, our schedule is wave-like: passengers arrive from there, passengers fly there,» — emphasized the Belavia representative.
«We have a night wave – this is the South Caucasus. We have many passengers from Russia who arrive on morning, daytime flights and fly further in the evening. This allows us to attract transit passengers, load flights more fully, improve flight economics, and, consequently, make tickets more affordable,» — Ekaterina Radishevskaya added.
