USA supported Latvia in the fight against illegal migration and highly appreciated its readiness to interact with Belarus
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported Latvia in connection with the situation on the Latvian-Belarusian border and called illegal migration a serious threat to the security of Latvia and the entire region. This was reported by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, publishing Rubio's letter.

The US Secretary of State thanked his Latvian counterpart for contacts with the American team dealing with the Belarusian direction, as well as with the US President's Special Envoy for Belarus, John Koole. According to Rubio, during the conversation between Braže and Koole, they thoroughly discussed the issue of illegal migration.

Marco Rubio stated that the US understands Latvia's concern about the situation on the border and highly appreciates its efforts to control the state border, as well as its readiness to interact with the Belarusian authorities on this issue.
He also called Latvia a reliable US ally in NATO and noted its contribution to ensuring regional security. In addition, Rubio thanked Latvia for its work within the European Union and the UN, including its efforts to hold the Cuban regime accountable for its actions.
Baiba Braže, in turn, stated that Latvia is working closely with the US administration to combat illegal migration and other threats at the border. According to her, such cooperation contributes to strengthening the entire NATO.
