Russia began discussing the deployment of AI data centers in "friendly" countries

Aliaksei Sviatsitski, head of the Belarusian Association of High Technologies and Digital Infrastructure, has already offered Russian companies to build such centers in the country.

The Russian government is exploring the possibility of establishing data centers (data processing centers — DPC) for artificial intelligence (AI) in "friendly" countries, particularly Belarus and Kazakhstan. RBC writes about this, citing sources in the IT industry. The Ministry of Digital Development confirmed that various options for data center placement are being considered, but no concrete decisions have been made yet.

One of the reasons is the deficit of computing power in Russia. In Moscow, about 50 MW remain available, which is enough for two to four large commercial DPCs. At the same time, the Moscow region accounts for more than 75% of commercial capacity, and by 2032–2033, the country will need to additionally introduce 2.5–3 GW of capacity. In addition, a rack with AI equipment consumes up to 40 kW, whereas a conventional one consumes 5–10 kW.

Aliaksei Sviatsitski, head of the Belarusian Association of High Technologies and Digital Infrastructure, has already offered Russian companies to build DPCs in the country. He announced that he is holding negotiations on this matter with Igor Dorofeev, president of the Russian Association of DPC Industry Participants.

Among the possible projects is the "Moscow — Minsk" data center on the border of the two countries.

One of Belarus' advantages cited is its surplus electricity. Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said in March that the country is ready to offer investors and partners favorable conditions in the field of data centers.

Kazakhstan, meanwhile, is developing the "DPC Valley" project in Ekibastuz. Its capacity is expected to be 300 MW with the possibility of increasing to 1 GW, and the investment volume is estimated at approximately $10 billion. Cooperation agreements have been concluded with Firebird and Nvidia, with launch planned for 2027.
