Judge Brysina, who sentenced Pavel Belavus to 13 years in a penal colony, sent to retirement and awarded "For Devotion to Justice" badge
64-year-old Zhanna Brysina from the Minsk City Court is involved in dozens of political sentences.

On October 14, Judge Zhanna Brysina, involved in dozens of political trials, was solemnly retired at the Minsk City Court. She turns 65 in a week.
Chairman of the Minsk City Court Tatsiana Tupik thanked Brysina for "many years of diligent work, impeccable professionalism, and unwavering loyalty to the ideals of justice." On behalf of the Chairman of the Supreme Court Andrei Shved, she presented her with the "For Devotion to Justice" badge.
Brysina's most famous verdict concerns Pavel Belavus, founder of the national symbols store Symbal.by. On May 11, 2023, she sentenced him to 13 years in a penal colony in a closed trial. Belavus was found guilty under four articles, including "treason against the state" and "creating an extremist formation." He spent almost five years behind bars.
In January 2024, Brysina sentenced Borisov photojournalist Aliaksandr Ziankou to three years in a penal colony. He was accused of participating in an "extremist formation."
In total, the "Dissident" database contains 40 political sentences attributed to her. Brysina judged some political prisoners in the first instance, and reviewed others' cases on appeal.
On March 27, 2025, the European Union included Brysina in its sanctions list.
This is the second time Brysina has been sanctioned. She was first included in the list in 2011 when she was a judge of the Zavodski District Court of Minsk. At that time, she judged journalist Iryna Khalip, Siarhei Martsalew, and Pavel Seviarynets in the case of Ploshcha-2010.
