In Rechytsa district, poachers set hunting dogs on a defenseless moose calf VIDEO
A group of men was detained in the Rechytsa district, who are suspected of illegal hunting and cruel persecution of a moose calf. The offenders were discovered during a joint raid by the Gomel Regional Inspectorate for Wildlife and Flora Protection and employees of the Rechytsa Forestry, who were checking operational information.

During the inspection, forestry employees near one of the fields noticed men driving a car and setting their hunting dogs on a moose calf, which was not even a year old. According to inspectors' testimony, the poachers forcibly separated the young calf from its mother. What happened to the mother moose is currently being investigated. It is not ruled out that she also became a victim of illegal hunting.
The video footage from the scene shows how the exhausted and frightened moose calf, fleeing from the dogs, presses against the body of the forestry employees' service vehicle.
Employees of the Gomel Regional Inspectorate arrived at the scene. During the investigation, it was revealed that only one person in the entire group had the legal status of a hunter.
Two administrative proceedings were initiated against the detainee. The first — under Part 1 of Article 16.27 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Belarus for gross violation of hunting rules. The second — under Part 9 of the same article for being in hunting grounds and hunting without documents stipulated by law.
In addition, materials regarding the gross violation of the rules for accounting, storage, and use of firearms under Article 24.30 of the Code of Administrative Offenses were transferred to the Rechytsa District Department of Internal Affairs.
The inspection noted that the detention was made possible thanks to the cooperation of two agencies within the framework of a special comprehensive event called "Hunting". The operational work of the inspectors and the local knowledge of the forestry employees helped identify the offenders.
