"Currently in intensive care." A Minsk resident found in the forest after ten days of searching
On Saturday, August 1, Maria Prokopchik left home and disappeared.
CCTV cameras first recorded her in the area of Panchanka Street, and then the woman disappeared. The Minsk resident was found after 10 days — she is alive. Pavel Yakimovich, head of the Sirius search and rescue squad, shared details of the rescue operation with Onliner.
Maria Nikolaevna is 74 years old. Her relatives, the police, and volunteers managed to track part of her journey using CCTV recordings. The pensioner took a bus to Panchanka Street, and then her trail was lost.
Searching for Maria began immediately: the woman has dementia, so she was disoriented and needed medical attention.
— Until August 8, there was no information about Maria Nikolaevna. Throughout this time, the searches did not stop, — says Pavel Yakimovich. — And only last Saturday a lead appeared: analyzed video materials showed that the woman got off the bus in the area of 4th Montazhnikau Lane, next to a forest belt. We sent two dog handler teams there to check for dangerous natural traps in that area.
On the evening of August 11, the dogs found the pensioner lying in dense bushes.
She was conscious but completely exhausted — presumably, the woman had drunk almost nothing and definitely hadn't eaten anything.
— Volunteers covered her with a thermal blanket, moistened her lips with water, and handed her over to the ambulance crew.
Objectively speaking, Maria Nikolaevna is currently in a very serious condition; she is in intensive care. Apparently, when the woman entered the forest, she fell and remained in that position until she was found.
