Political prisoner Tatsiana Korsakava placed in a "soft room" and deprived of drinking water in the KGB pre-trial detention center

Dzmitry and Tatsiana Korsakavy were detained on September 26, 2025, after a search of their apartment. A month ago, the family received a harsh sentence. The parents were accused under Part 1 of Art. 356 of the Criminal Code (treason), Part 4 of Art. 295 of the Criminal Code (illegal actions concerning firearms, ammunition, and explosives), and Part 3 of Art. 333-1 of the Criminal Code (illegal movement across the border of poisonous substances, firearms, ammunition, explosives). Pelagiya was found guilty in absentia under Part 1 of Art. 356 of the Criminal Code (treason).

For the first six months, the Korsakavys were held in the KGB pre-trial detention center. There, Tatsiana and Dzmitry began to experience health problems. According to a "Viasna" source, KGB officers put pressure on the woman:

she was forced to stand for 12 hours behind a red line in the cell; she was placed in a "soft room" where she was not given water, only a bowl of overcooked fish was left.

At the same time, the deputy head of the pre-trial detention center told her that he was her personal nutritionist.

It is known that the political prisoner did not plead guilty, which could have been the reason for such pressure.

Tatsiana also complained that she could not get access to her medications. According to the political prisoner herself, she has hypertension and type 2 diabetes, which is controlled by medication and does not require insulin therapy.

At liberty, the woman took metformin to treat diabetes. However, in the pre-trial detention center, she regularly faced difficulties in obtaining the necessary medications.

During her imprisonment, Tatsiana, according to her, lost about 20 kilograms. In addition, she complained of constantly elevated blood pressure. Tatsiana's daughter said that over the past three years, her mother had serious problems with her knee joint. She said that fluid accumulated in her knee, due to which the woman regularly received injections so that she could move independently.

In addition to health problems, the political prisoner was practically deprived of the opportunity to communicate with loved ones. According to "Viasna," letters to Tatsiana practically do not reach her.

Shortly before the end of the investigation, Tatsiana was transferred from the KGB pre-trial detention center to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Kaliadzichy to review the case materials.

After one such visit, she returned to her cell in tears. The woman said that she saw the condition of her husband. Under what circumstances this happened — during a personal meeting or by photo — the source is unknown.

Tatsiana hardly spoke about the details of her criminal case. However, as the "Viasna" source notes, she said that her persecution was related to the fact that her daughter lives in Ukraine, and during the investigation, the main questions were devoted precisely to her.

According to her daughter, Dzmitry's health also significantly deteriorated while he was held in the KGB pre-trial detention center. She said that even before his detention, the man had health problems that could have worsened in confinement.

Now the couple is in Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Minsk and awaiting consideration of their appeals.
