Welder from Orsha died in the war. His wife fought for two years for compensation — and finally got it

Andrei Harbatouski was 57 years old.

In June 2026, one of the district courts of Russia's Stavropol Krai finally agreed to pay Alena Shyk around $38,000 for her deceased husband.

Andrei Harbatouski was born in 1967 in Orsha, and the couple registered their marriage in Kalodzishchy near Minsk. On Harbatouski's social media, Minsk is still listed as his place of residence.

However, at some point in his life, he moved to Russia, working as a welder for a Moscow construction company. Later, he settled in a village in the Izobilnensky district of Stavropol Krai, but lived there without registration.

Therefore, when the Belarusian went to war and died there (presumably, on October 2, 2024), his wife was left with nothing — if there's no residence registration, no money will be given. For over a year, Alena Shyk fought for the death benefits and finally managed to convince officials.

Harbatouski also had a first wife; from their marriage, the Belarusian had a daughter and a son.
