In Minsk, police with weapons detained three repeat offender "gastrolers"
In Minsk, criminal investigation officers, with the support of riot police (OMON) special forces, detained three foreign citizens suspected of attempting a large-scale theft from a private house. During the operation, special forces officers used firearms, reported the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during a personal search of the detainees and an inspection of their car, special tools for illegal entry into dwellings were found and seized. They also had masks, gloves, a crowbar, change of clothes, and other items that, according to the investigation, could have been used in committing the crime.
The detainees are 39, 43, and 56 years old. All of them are foreign citizens who have previously been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility for serious and especially serious crimes, including intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspects came to Minsk to steal a large sum of money — from one and a half to five million dollars. Law enforcement officers had previously received information that unknown individuals in masks were scouting the area near a cottage in the Central district of the capital, preparing for the crime.
According to the investigation, the criminals knew the code of the electronic lock on the gate, so they freely entered the house's territory, bypassed it from the rear, damaged the double-glazed window, and tried to get into the room where the safe with money was located. They were also confident that the owners were not at home, as they were abroad on vacation.
After the first unsuccessful attempt, the suspects traveled to Russia, but returned to Belarus the very next day.
As a result of joint work by the Belarusian criminal investigation department and Russian law enforcement officers, the identities of the suspects were established. They were detained during another attempt to commit a theft.
Currently, law enforcement officers are conducting further operational-investigative measures to ascertain all circumstances of the incident and to check the possible involvement of the detainees in other crimes committed in Belarus and on the territory of other CIS countries.
