Parents Darya and Nikita Buraki from Svetlogorsk came up with the name of the legendary bogatyr (hero) from Russian folklore for their firstborn even before his birth.
“As a joke, one of us once said the name Dobrynya — meaning, the child would be a strongman (bogatyr). We are both tall, and there are many strong, well-built men in our family. So we thought this name would definitely suit our son,” the mother said.
The parents' initial choice soon turned from a joke into a firm intention. Not everyone unanimously accepted the name: relatives and friends occasionally asked if they had changed their minds, and some didn't believe such a choice at all. But the name was so liked and felt so right that other options were no longer considered.
“I offered my husband alternatives, for example, Seraphim or Leo, but all other names already seemed not quite right. We eagerly awaited our little Dobrynya,” says the mother.
It is interesting that little Dobrynya also has namesakes — in the last ten years, five more Dobrynya Nikitichs have been registered in the Gomel Region, reports the Main Department of Justice of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee.
