Criminal Authority Detained in Minsk for Seizing Apartments; Part of Money Went to Russian 'Obshchak'

In Minsk, law enforcement officers detained criminals who profited from real estate scams. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, among the six detained are one of the leaders of the Belarusian criminal world, as well as an employee of one of the capital's real estate agencies.

The fraudsters looked for people in the capital with utility debts. Gaining the trust of the owners, they convinced them to sell their apartment and move to a cheaper room, promising to pay the difference in price. In reality, the price of the capital's housing was artificially understated during registration, while the price of the new accommodation was overstated.

They divided part among themselves, and sent another part to Russia to replenish the so-called thieves' 'obshchak' (criminal fund).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that investigators are looking for other possible participants in the scheme and victims of the group's actions.
