From Minsk Sea to Chizhovka: A unified cycling route to be created in Minsk
The development of cycling infrastructure in Minsk is taking place in stages within the framework of the Concept for the Development of Cycling Movement until 2030. According to it, by 2030, it is planned to create up to 380 kilometers of main cycling routes in the city.
One of the largest projects will be the creation of modern cycling infrastructure in the "Northern Shore" multifunctional complex, writes Onliner.by.
The project will create a new route in the northern part of Minsk and connect two main cycling arteries:
- the cycling route along the Svislach River — from Chizhovka Reservoir to Minsk Sea, as well as cycling routes around the Tsnyanka Reservoir;
- the prospective main cycling path along the Slepian water system.
The "Northern Shore" complex is located between two of Minsk's largest natural areas — Drozdy and Tsnyanka.
As a result, a continuous cycling route will appear, connecting:
Minsk Sea — Drozdy — "Northern Shore" — Friendship of Peoples Park — National Library — Slepian water system — Chizhovka Reservoir.
The project provides for the creation of a full-fledged urban cycling network: cycling routes in the existing and projected parts of "LakeSide Park", dedicated cycling paths along the city streets of the "Northern Shore" complex, intra-quarter cycling boulevards, bicycle parking, and bicycle storage boxes.
After the completion of construction, there will be about 20 thousand bicycle spaces in modern bicycle storage boxes and more than 24 kilometers of intra-quarter cycling routes.
The concept of territorial development provides for the preservation of existing natural landscapes, the creation of green corridors, linear parks and boulevards, as well as the extension of existing recreational cycling routes through the new urban space.
The project will be implemented in two stages.
