The incident occurred in July. An elderly couple was heading to the hospital for an examination when an unknown man attacked them. He hit the woman on the head with a bottle and pushed her husband onto the roadway.

Ruslan, a shipbuilding shipyard worker from Ukraine, witnessed the attack. He was the first to rush to help. He was joined by Barys Matsviaychuk, a city bus driver who came to Poland from Belarus.

The men not only helped the victims but also detained the attacker until the police arrived.

Barys Matsviaychuk works as a driver of bus number 283. The route passes near the University Clinical Center, so it is often used by hospital patients.

After the incident, Pani Grazyna, the injured woman, contacted the transport company GAiT and asked them to convey her and her husband's gratitude to Barys. In the letter, she expressed deep respect for his help and humane act.

Matsviaychuk has been working at GAiT for about two years. He came to Poland from Belarus in 2015. He lived in Sweden for some time but later decided to settle in Tri-City (Trojmiasto), where his brother had moved earlier.

Before working at GAiT, Barys was involved in the construction business and car repair shops.

According to the man, during an interview at GAiT, he was asked how he would behave in a stressful situation. At that time, he couldn't immediately give a ready answer. Now, Barys says, he has given his answer through his actions.

Matsviaychuk recently obtained Polish citizenship.
