Skaryna Press has published Oscar Wilde's classic, widely quoted novel 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. The translation is based on the uncensored version, which was only published in English in 2011. Vilz O'Flaherty translated it into Belarusian, as reported by bellit.info.

“What would you sacrifice for eternal youth and beauty? For Dorian Gray, a dazzlingly attractive young man in Victorian London, the answer was simple – everything. When the brilliantly clever Lord Henry Wotton fills Dorian's impressionable mind with a seductive philosophy, he expresses a fateful wish, the secret of which the portrait will keep,” reads the book's blurb on the publisher's website.
First published in 1890, the work caused a scandal: in every line, polite society recognized itself. Oscar Wilde's only novel remains one of the brightest gems of English-language literature. Gothicism, social satire, and philosophical parable cleverly merged into one. With surgical precision and infectious wit, Oscar Wilde exposes hypocrisy and asks the reader: what do you live for?
Beneath the shimmering surface of the text flows a delicate queer undercurrent: artist Basil Hallward's fascination with Dorian, the unspoken intimacy between characters, and the protagonist's mysterious life articulate desires unspeakable in Puritan society. The novel was used in court as evidence of the author's criminal depravity. For him, the work became an encrypted self-portrait of an artist who understands the value of beauty and the danger of secrecy.
The new release can be ordered via the Skaryna Press publisher's website.
