Polish passport enjoys immense popularity among Belarusians
Belarusians rank second after Ukrainians in the number of Polish passport recipients. However, if we look at the data adjusted for the total population of Belarus and Ukraine themselves, the popularity of obtaining a Polish passport is highest precisely among Belarusians.
Notably, Russians come in third, though with a significant gap.
Last year, about 10,000 Ukrainians and around 6,500 Belarusians received Polish passports, while there were only 759 Russians. However, this doesn't prevent them from holding the third position, and for quite a few years.
In total, it turns out that in 2025, out of 19 thousand new Polish citizens, 17 thousand (or 90%) are Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Russians.
Around 60% of Polish citizenship recipients are individuals of Polish descent.
The number of Belarusians with Polish passports grows every year
In 2022, 3,400 Belarusians received Polish citizenship.
In 2023, around 4,400 Belarusians became Polish citizens.
In 2024, almost 5,700 Belarusians became Polish citizens.
By the end of 2025, this number reached 6,500 people.
It turns out that in the last four years alone, about 20,000 citizens of Belarus have received Polish passports.
And as statistics show, the number of new Polish citizens among citizens of Belarus is steadily growing. For comparison, in 2020-2021, about 2,100 Belarusians received Polish passports annually.
And if Poland does not amend the laws governing citizenship acquisition (and such discussions are becoming more frequent), the number of Belarusians receiving Polish passports will continue to grow. Each year, more and more Belarusians reach the time threshold after which they can apply for citizenship, even without Polish roots.
