Residents of Slutsk and the Slutsk district are once again raising the alarm due to an infestation of large slugs that are destroying crops on their plots.
According to gardeners, the pests are occupying new territories every year. It is believed to be the Spanish slug, but there is no precise information yet that it is indeed this species.
As SlutskGorod writes, large slugs have been noticed for several years in various areas of Slutsk — in the area of Gypsy Park, as well as on Roza Luxemburg and Pliev streets. According to residents, they have been fighting them on one side of Pliev street for about five years, and on the other — for approximately two years.
Gardeners say that they quickly spread to neighboring plots and severely damage plants. During periods of mass appearance, they report being able to collect up to four or five liters of pests in one walk around a plot.
Although specialists have not yet confirmed that the found individuals belong specifically to the Spanish slug, concerns are well-founded. This invasive species is considered one of the most dangerous pests of gardens and vegetable gardens.
According to residents of Slutsk, it has not yet been possible to completely get rid of the pests. Various means are used for control, including salt-based compounds. However, the gardeners themselves note that such methods can harm the soil.
One of the publication's interlocutors said that after regular treatment with a similar agent, strawberries stopped growing on their plot.
